Came in from other wild birds or any new birds you might have acquired. Changes to the environment. I didn't have problems with mites until I took my birds off sand, now that they are on a wood floor...

If I recall DHlunicorn had a really good parasite link.. I would think it is a shaft mite that consumes or causes severe breaking of the feathers. Jody
